I must pace myself
by Alisha Peckham, Canada

To help cope with fatigue, I take a nap once a day, plus I have a reduced timetable at school so I am only at school for two classes totalling about two hours and 30 minutes. This was all arranged by my OT and physio through the school. When I was about 10 years old I had a lot more energy, but that has slowly changed over time. Now at 17 I am dead tired while doing a lot of things.

I know I must pace myself and it's hard because we all seem to have to get through things quickly, but I am adjusting. When I pace myself at doing school work, homework, washing dishes (when it's my turn) writing e-mails, letters and other things, it seems to work better for myself and things get done better.

The most difficult thing for me is trying to stay awake and finish something on time -- such as an essay for school. I haven't fallen asleep in class yet but that is one thing I am trying not to do. Most of all I am trying to conserve all necessary energy to get through the day.
